O.R.E.O. Project

This is an online project that our class participated in--along with other classrooms around the globe.  As part of the project, each boy had to stack Oreo® cookies as high as he could without causing a “tumble”.  As a class we gathered the data from two attempts and then average all of the individual results to achieve a final Class result.

Our results were:

Math Class:
16 students stacking
Average of 16 cookies per tower (before tumbles)

Homeroom Class:
15 students stacking
Average of 16 cookies per tower (before tumbles)

How Will the Cookies Tumble?

The math classes will be participating in the annual O.R.E.O. (Our Really Exciting Online) Project next week along with other classes from around the world. The boys will have the opportunity to stack Oreo® cookies as high as they can. Each boy will work cooperatively with a partner to complete the stacking activity. Along with a lot of fun, the boys will learn to make good estimates,  record data using tally marks,  and find a class average. We will report our results to the project coordinator, and the boys will be able to compare our results to other classes. How many cookies do you think you can stack before they tumble?
